What is relief sculpture?

Relief sculpture, also known as "raised sculpture," is an artistic form created by carving raised images on a flat surface. Based on the degree of relief, relief sculpture is further divided into high relief (large undulations and deep protrusion) and low relief (small undulations and shallow protrusion).

Openwork sculpture, on the other hand, lies between sculpture in the round and relief sculpture. It is created by hollowing out the background of relief sculpture, but without detaching itself from the flat surface, resembling a sculpture in the round attached to a flat background.
